2016 TESTIMONIALS

RHONA, SCOTLAND, GENTLE STEPS FROM SARRIA TO SANTIAGO

First of all -Did you enjoy your holiday?  Yes

How would you rate the organisation of your holiday?  First class.

What did you think about the accommodation -tell us about the best and the not so good  They were all excellent and the locations very appropriate for the following day's activities. I especially liked the grandeur of the Hospederia San Martin in Santiago. The Casa O'Acivro was gorgeus and that pool very welcoming although I was the only one who actually swam in it.

Baggage Transfers-Did everything run smoothly and arrive on time?  Yes absolutely.

Did the Information Pack provide all the information you needed?  Very well put together and comprehensive.

Any other Comments  Thanks to the team for your constant support and guidance and for making it all so easy, apart from the walking which was not so easy but we have to do something ourselves :)

SUE - AUSTRALIA - VIA DE LA PLATA

First of all -Did you enjoy your holiday? We had a brilliant time, loved the scenery, hosts, food etc!

How would you rate the organisation of your holiday? Excellent and thorough. Email communication was clear and efficient. Response to queries fabulous and timely.

What did you think about the accommodation -tell us about the best and the not so good  Casa Casarellos - lovely! The hostess was very gracious staying up so late and feeding us after our delayed flight from London. Pazo De Bendoiro - absolutely divine and unexpected! Stunning location, views and hospitality. Hotel Victorino - this was somewhat disappointing after the first two nights. Hostess was lovely. Casa de Casal - again, a lovely homely feel similar to our first night. Room lacked air-conditioning and was very hot overnight. Hostess was again most gracious - beautiful. Hospederia San Martin - amazing place. Room spacious enough but we personally found this too big and busy - it lacked the special feel of the smaller country residences, but that was a personal perspective.

What did you think about the food-what was good and what can be improved  The food on nights 1,2 and 4 was fabulous and plentiful. Hotel Victorino was very basic food. Hospederia, we only had breakfast - that was below average in comparison in both choice and quality in comparison to the other places. It was SO busy in the cafeteria, it would have been easier for us to find a place elsewhere. As opposed to the other places, there was no personal service, which we loved :)

Any other Comments  We had such a special shared time together and fell in love with the Spanish countryside. Thank you for all your efforts and hard-work!!

PETE, ENGLAND, CAMINO PORTUGUES FROM TUI

First of all -Did you enjoy your holiday?  Yes - very much

How would you rate the organisation of your holiday?  Trouble-free

What did you think about the accommodation -tell us about the best and the not so good The Paradors were certainly the highlight and we would recommend the upgrade to others. The low point was the hotel in Porrino but this was not a surprise.

What did you think about the food-what was good and what can be improved Other than Porrino breakfasts were good or very good. Dinners where there was no choice were fine, although we think you should warn people that salted cod is an acquired taste. Would recommend Cantina 41 in Porrino - a really pleasant surprise.

Baggage Transfers-Did everything run smoothly and arrive on time?  Not a hitch

Did the Information Pack provide all the information you needed?  Yes

Any Other Comments We have previously done part of the French Camino from Leon to Santiago with another company. The accommodation and food you arranged was much superior.

MARCIA -  AUSTRALIA - Rioja Gourmet & Sarria to Santiago de Compostela

First of all -Did you enjoy your holiday?  Yes the holiday was fabulous. Enjoyed Spain very much.

How would you rate the organisation of your holiday? The organisation overall was good. A couple of hiccups re David Moreno wine tour dates being mixed up and the dinner menu at San Millan. Appreciated the effort to organise a wine tour in Najera instead with Jesus from the Hotel.

What did you think about the accommodation -tell us about the best and the not so good  The accommodation was very good. Really enjoyed the final stay in Santiago de Compostela and Santo Domingo.

What did you think about the food-what was good and what can be improved  The food was excellent.

Baggage Transfers-Did everything run smoothly and arrive on time?  There was no problem with baggage transfers.

Can you suggest any areas for improvement?  A brief overview of the history of some of the places visited would have been helpful as it was not always possible to get wifi in all hotels.

Would you recommend Walk the Camino?  Yes

Any other Comments

Thank you for your prompt responses. Overall a wonderful and memorable holiday. The Spanish people were very friendly and helpful.

LOUISE - ENGLAND - LAST STAGE CAMINO FRANCES SARRIA TO SANTIAGO

First of all -Did you enjoy your holiday? Absolutely fantastic!

How would you rate the organisation of your holiday? First rate. The information pack was beautifully presented and helpful. Our luggage was efficiently handled at every stop and the team was always available on the phone to offer help and advice. Friendly voice at the end of a phone!

What did you think about the accommodation -tell us about the best and the not so good  The accommodation didn't disappoint at all. Great variety meant we didn't know what to expect each night which was exciting for us. Probably the most picturesque was Rectoral de Lestedo. A beautiful architectural home and the hosts were fantastic. Home cooked food and friendly.

What did you think about the food-what was good and what can be improved  Quality of food was excellent. Breakfasts were simple and typically Spanish although we did get bacon and scrambled eggs at Casa O'Acivro which was a nice change. 3 courses and home cooked food in Lestedo and a menu choice at Casa O'Acivro. We ate out in the other destinations - great tapas bars at fantastically reasonable prices.

Baggage Transfers-Did everything run smoothly and arrive on time?  Fantastic. There were no issues at all with the luggage transfers which was very reassuring! Always there when we arrived at our destination.

Did the Information Pack provide all the information you needed?  Very helpful and beautifully presented. Directions to each accommodation were precise and clear.

Any other Comments  You couldn't have been more helpful. You managed to locate a missing mobile phone which we'd lost on the first day and it was returned by taxi before we left Santiago. Thank you very much!

DANI - CALIFORNIA - CAMINO FRANCES FROM SARRIA

First of all -Did you enjoy your holiday? Yes. I wasn't sure what to expect of the hike, but it was very scenic and overall not too difficult.

How would you rate the organisation of your holiday? Directions were clear, no issues with reservations or luggage transfer.

What did you think about the accommodation -tell us about the best and the not so good   We liked all of the places we stayed expect for one. We stayed at Hotel Alfonso IX, Complejo la Cabana, Casa Teodora, Casa O'Acivro and Hotel Capitol. They all were clean, in good locations, and had friendly staff. Hotel Capitol was nice as it was walkable to everything but out of the busy center so it was quiet at night. The only place I wouldn't recommend to others was the Pension in Portomarin, but the location was good and the staff was friendly and the room was clean. If there had been an upgraded option for this town I think I would have opted for it.

What did you think about the food-what was good and what can be improved  All of the breakfasts were fine and adequate to get our day started right. We really enjoyed the breakfast from Casa O'Avivro (scrambled eggs and bacon!).

SAL - CANADA - SARRIA TO SANTIAGO

First of all -Did you enjoy your holiday? YES.

How would you rate the organisation of your holiday? The bag delivery is the most helpful part.

What did you think about the accommodation -tell us about the best and the not so good Breakfasts are not available early which means you miss it if you are wanting to walk earlier (like 6:00, 6:30) some didn't have breakfast until after 7:30.

KOOS - IRELAND - FRENCH WAY SARRIA TO SANTIAGO

First of all -Did you enjoy your holiday? The holiday was great. We walked from Sarria. The scenery was beautiful and more lush that expected. The distances where just right and it was an easy and enjoyable walk.

How would you rate the organisation of your holiday? Walk the Camino did a great job in organizing the holiday. There were no glitches and everything happened according to plan.

What did you think about the accommodation -tell us about the best and the not so good  This might be a personal preference but we enjoyed the rural accommodation more (Rectoral de Lestedo & Casa O’Acivro). The only issue we had was in Melide. It had nothing to do with Pension, but there is a club nearby. The music was very loud and only stopped at 6am on saturday night.  In Santiago we stayed in Hotel Capitol. It was a great stay and very friendly staff.

What did you think about the food-what was good and what can be improved  The breakfast varied, but sufficient. In the evenings we either used your recommended restaurants or we looked on Trip Advisor. Again the home cooking at Rectoral de Lestedo was great. The best food on the way was definitely at Casa O’Acivro. We can definitely recommend Malak in Santiago.

Baggage Transfers-Did everything run smoothly and arrive on time? This was great, always on time. Very well organized.

Did the Information Pack provide all the information you needed?  Yes, but in highsight we should have done a bit more home work on our side. If at all possible I would put togther a reading list for people.

Can you suggest any areas for improvement?  We where very impressed. We talked with a lot of pilgrims and I think our tour (all aspects) compared very well.

Any other Comments  The private transfer between the airport and Sarria went well. The person waited for us when we arrived and were very helpful and friendly.

CLAIRE - U.K - CAMINO FRANCES

First of all -Did you enjoy your holiday?  Fantastic holiday

How would you rate the organisation of your holiday?  Very well organised, everything ran very smoothly and really made everything very straight forward

What did you think about the accommodation -tell us about the best and the not so good  All the accommodation was good- regardless of official rating of accommodation all were nice places to stay.

What did you think about the food-what was good and what can be improved For the more rural accommodation the pilgrim menu provided gave several choices at a very good price.

Baggage Transfers-Did everything run smoothly and arrive on time? Very smooth, think our baggage always arrived before us!

Did the Information Pack provide all the information you needed? Yes

Can you suggest any areas for improvement? Very happy

LOUISA - QATAR

Which walk have you been on? Camino Frances

First of all -Did you enjoy your holiday?  I had a wonderful holiday and would have wanted to continue the next stage of my walk very soon :)

How would you rate the organisation of your holiday?  Excellent

What did you think about the accommodation -tell us about the best and the not so good  All the accommodation on the way was very good. The receptionist at Hotel Monaco in Los Arcos was the nicest, friendliest, most helpful guy.

What did you think about the food-what was good and what can be improved  The food was typical of Spain and met my expectations.

Baggage Transfers-Did everything run smoothly and arrive on time?  My bag always awaited me at my accommodation.

Did the Information Pack provide all the information you needed? Yes, it was very detailed. However, due to the poor postal service in the Middle East I never received my information pack via mail. You sent me electronic copies of the pack. Luckily I still had John Brierley's guide on the Camino and had a luggage tag from my first Camino. I purchased a credential at my first stop in Saint Jean Pied de Port.

Can you suggest any areas for improvement? The overall experience was up to my expectations.

Any other Comments  Keep up the good work, thank you for making my holiday stress free.

ANONYMOUS - SARRIA TO SANTIAGO

First of all -Did you enjoy your holiday?  Yes, very much

How would you rate the organisation of your holiday?  Excellent

What did you think about the accommodation -tell us about the best and the not so good  Casa Barbadelo was excellent as was Hotel o Pino. The Bar O'Crueiro in Ventas de Naron was a small room, the sheets were damp but the owner quickly changed them. The Hospederia was excellent but the staff on the desk were unhelpful.

What did you think about the food-what was good and what can be improved  Overall the food was very good, especially in the Hotel O pino and Barbadelo, The breakfasts were all excellent.

Baggage Transfers-Did everything run smoothly and arrive on time? Yes

Did the Information Pack provide all the information you needed?  Yes

Can you suggest any areas for improvement? The only tedious part was the bus from Santiago to Sarria at the start we had a really long wait and it was late

Would you recommend Walk the Camino? Yes

Any other Comments Thank you so much. The walk was memorable and there were so many lovely little coffee stops along the way.

CLAIRE - VIA DE LA PLATA

First of all -Did you enjoy your holiday? Yes

How would you rate the organisation of your holiday? 4,5/5

What did you think about the accommodation -tell us about the best and the not so good

Pazo de Gallegos was probably the worst. The caretaker/host seemed a bit off put by our big group and was not accommodating to our needs. We felt as if we were staying in a museum rather than a hotel. The victorinos hostel, despite being basic, had the most lovely woman who gave us everything we asked for and looked after us perfectly. The best hotel was bendoiro

What did you think about the food-what was good and what can be improved  Breakfasts were probably the biggest struggle as some places weren't too keen to serve us too early even though we wanted an early start. Case grande breakfast was the most basic and we unfortunately found ourselves hungry quite early on in the walk. All other places had lovely breakfasts and even provided us with enough food so that we could pack a snack and lunch.

Baggage Transfers-Did everything run smoothly and arrive on time?  Perfect

Did the Information Pack provide all the information you needed?  Yes.

We enjoyed our holiday very much - it was a wonderful experience. Something completely different! The organisation of the holiday was spot-on. You really couldn't have done a better job. The whole thing was perfectly tailored to our needs. It's hard to express in an e-mail how good it all was.

Anne Corrigan, UK, walking the Camino Frances

We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and found the organisation excellent. We were also impressed by the friendliness and welcome we received everywhere. The information pack was useful and contained all the information we needed. So many, many thanks again for your kindness, efficiency and help in giving us such a good holiday.
