The U.K. Government’s Global Travel Taskforce has now set out a framework for the safe restart of international travel which could be starting from the 17th of May.
The plan includes a traffic light system that will categorise all countries into green, amber or red.
There will be different requirements for travellers depending on the category colour of the country they are visiting.
Details of the traffic light system can be found at gov.uk.
In short, this is expected to be based on the launch of:-
1 a new traffic light system
2 a ’green watchlist’,
3 the introduction of travel certification
There are testing requirements for each category of country.
It is difficult to say yet just how much the tests will cost.
The Government has committed to looking at the costs for travellers and said this could include cheaper tests being used when holidaymakers return home, as well as whether the Government would be able to provide pre-departure tests.
We’re still waiting for further details on the restart of foreign travel and the Government has said it will set out which countries fall into which category by early May.
